MIDWEEK FLOODLIT YOUTH CUP

Brocton have been crowned champions of the Midweek Floodlit Youth Cup following a thrilling penalty shootout win over Stourbridge in what was the third Staffordshire cup final in a row between the two sides.

The game was tight and tense throughout, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances.

The first real opportunity of the match fell to Stourbridge, when a well-placed cross was met by a powerful header, but Brocton's goalkeeper pulled off a fantastic save to keep the scores level.

Brocton responded midway through the first half with a fierce strike from the edge of the area, which was tipped over by the Stourbridge keeper.

The final chance of the half came from Stourbridge's number 9, who showed great skill on the edge of the penalty area to create space for a shot. However, once again, Brocton's goalkeeper was equal to it, diving low to make the save.

The second half was equally tight, with neither team able to create a clear opportunity to break the deadlock.

With the game drawing to a close, it became increasingly likely that the match would be decided by penalties, especially given that the two previous finals between these sides had also gone to spot-kicks.

Despite five minutes of added time, neither team was able to find a winner, and the match went to a penalty shootout.

The shootout was tense and nerve-wracking, with both teams trading blows and only three of the eighteen penalties being missed. In the end, it was Brocton who held their nerve to claim victory and lift the Midweek Floodlit Youth Cup.
