Sunday Challenge Cup Final match report
In a thrilling Sunday Challenge Cup final, FC Maybank staged a comeback to clinch victory against Morrisman FC with a scoreline of 2-1.
The match was played in front of an incredible crowd of 388.
The game started with Morrisman asserting their dominance early on, as Elliot found the back of the net in the 7th minute, capitalising on a well-placed ball from the left. The early setback ignited Maybank's resolve, and they began to carve out opportunities of their own, albeit without immediate success.
Morrisman continued to threaten, almost doubling their lead in the 10th minute from a corner, only to be denied by the woodwork. Despite Maybank's efforts to level the score, Morrisman maintained their slender advantage as the game progressed into the latter stages of the first half.
As half time approached, Morrisman held onto their lead, leaving Maybank with work to do in the second half. However, the half time team talk seemed to invigorate Maybank, as they emerged from the break with renewed vigor.
The second half saw Maybank seizing the initiative, with Rogalski equalising in the 48th minute, capitalising on a deep freekick into the box. Buoyed by the equaliser, Maybank continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded in the 74th minute when Jamie Kempson calmly slotted home to give Maybank the lead for the first time in the match.
Morrisman fought valiantly to find an equaliser, coming close on several occasions, including a disallowed goal for offside just moments after Maybank took the lead. Despite their efforts, Morrisman couldn't find a breakthrough, with Maybank's defense standing firm.
As the final whistle blew, FC Maybank emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Morrisman, claiming the Sunday Challenge Cup for the very first time.
